Touch2Sign SES Completion

Certificate explainer · Not a legal opinion · ICIT Limited

This page explains the Touch2Sign SES completion seal. You may open it from the seal on a completed PDF.

Why Adobe may say this certificate is not trusted Acrobat can show “unknown issuer” or that the certificate is not trusted. That means Adobe does not recognise this certificate on its Approved Trust List (or your organisation has not installed the platform trust anchor). It does not mean the electronic signature is invalid under ESIGN, UETA, or eIDAS simple electronic signature rules. Viewer trust is not the same as legal effect.

What this seal is

A platform integrity seal. It means the file was completed and sealed by the platform. Together with a timestamp (when applied) and the evidence pack, it supports that the file was not changed after completion.

The seal is not what makes the signature legal.

United States

The federal ESIGN Act, and the Uniform Electronic Transactions Act in states that have adopted it, allow a simple electronic signature where the person intended to sign and the record can be retained. The seal is not what makes the signature legal, and it is not a notarization. This seal does not meet the identity or retention rules of a specific form, including Form I-9 or Form W-4.

European Union and Ireland

This seal is a simple electronic signature (SES) under eIDAS only. It is not an advanced electronic signature and it is not a qualified electronic signature. Touch2Sign / ICIT Limited is not a QTSP.

Timestamp

When a timestamp is applied, it is a Sectigo RFC 3161 timestamp.
